Cairo

Cairo's name means "The Triumphant".
Cairo is the capital city of Egypt and has a metropolitan population of about 15.75 million people.This makes the 7th most populous metropolis of the world and the first of Africa.

The city of Cairo is located in the north of Egypt.
In particular, Cairo rises on the banks and islands of the Nile River , promptly south of the point where Nile breaks into the low-lying Nile Delta region's two branches.

On the east of the river we can find the oldest part of Cairo. There, the city gradually spreads to the west, embracing the lands dedicated to agricolture and placed next to the Nile.
These western areas have been built by Ismail the Magnificent during the ninetineth century, taking as a model the city of Paris. This fact is witnessed by the constant presence of open spaces, boulevards and public gardens.
On the other side, the eastern part of the city, which is the older one, is very very different, with its hundreds of ancient mosques, small lanes and crowded tenements. Nothing to do with western's Cairo modern architecture!

If you are looking for Cairo's government buildings, you have to cross the bridges that link the city to the Nile islands of Gezira and Roda.Here there's the location of many government buildings and government officials live.
Moreover, there are bridges crossing the Nile that connect Cairo to the suburbs of Giza and Imbabah.

Deeping to the desert we can find west of Giza,located on the Giza plateau, which is a part of the ancient necropolis of Memphis. This place is famous for its three large pyramids, including, off course, the Great Pyramid of Giza!
About 11 miles (18 km) to the south of modern Cairo we can find the ancient Egyptian city of Memphis with the necropolis of Saqqara. These cities were Cairo's ancient predecessors, when Cairo was still in this approximate geographical location.
